St. Joseph Sylvania Right to Read Week

On Feb. 27 I returned to my old elementary and Jr. High school, St. Joe's Sylvania along with Miss Maumee Valley's Outstanding Teen, Kelly Kulka (also a former student of St. Joes) as a celebrity reader for the "Right to Read Week". This is a week held in honor of Dr. Suss and to celebrate his birthday, so naturally we chose a Dr. Suss book! We were invited to read to the 6th graders in the brand new Jr. high building, which was a beautiful new facility. We had the chance to not only to read, but also to talk about both the Miss and Outstanding Teen programs, Miss America, and our platforms. All of the 6th graders were so much fun and great listeners! We ran in to many of our former teachers who were all very excited to see us. After we had finished at the Jr. high, I went over to the "old school" were I had attended K-8 grade & I had the chance to speak to a few extra classes. I had so much fun all day, and not having been in the old building since elementary school, the building seemed to have shrunk! It was such great experience, and hopefully I will return next year as a celebrity reader again! Thanks St. Joe's!
