Hello everyone!
Over the past several months, I have been developing and writing a program called “Discovering YOU!”© as an extension of my platform “Building Self Esteem Through Discovering Y.O.U. – Your Own Uniqueness” ©. In late September I had the chance to meet with executives at the YMCA of Greater Toledo and begin an exciting collaboration with the Vice President of Child Development and the Director of the University YMCA, located on the campus of the University of Toledo. Together we began planning a new addition to the after school program of the YMCA of Greater Toledo, working with the family development chairs at a number of participating Y’s.
Through the opportunity of this collaboration, I have written and copyrighted a six week after school program focusing on self esteem in youth called “Discovering YOU!”©. My program is being implemented initially in 4 participating Y’s, targeting children between 8-12 years old. College students from the University Y, have volunteered to be facilitators and will lead the 6 week “Discovering YOU!”© program. As captured in these pictures, on Monday January 19, I conducted the first special training session with half of the University Y volunteers. Later this week I will meet with the other volunteers, to go through the manual I’ve written and train each of them to successfully facilitate the program.
It has been a fantastic and rewarding experience so far, to collaborate with friends in education, psychology, and advertising and write a program for such a respected national organization like the YMCA. I look forward to the upcoming kick-off of our pilot program and ultimately fulfilling our objective of expanding the reach of “Discovering YOU!”© promoting self esteem to YMCA’s across the state and nation! I will keep everyone updated as the program grows and progresses!
