As planned, and reported in my last post, last night, I completed the facilitator training for my “Discovering YOU!”© program. The facilitators are student volunteers from the University of Toledo Y. These facilitators will be assigned to the various initial sites, of the YMCA of Greater Toledo, to run the program. The participating Y’s will dedicate one hour per week, for 6 weeks, during their after school program for children 8 to 12 years old. The program will allow the children to learn about self esteem and tools to build a positive self image, set goals, respect themselves and others, and recognize the support around them. With the “Discovering YOU!” © program about to launch, I want to thank some very special people who have helped me expand the reach of my platform of “Building Self Esteem Through Discovering Y.O.U. – Your Own Uniqueness” ©. First, my sincere thanks to Larry Lev for his introduction of me to the executives at the YMCA. To Sarah, Jill, and the rest of my Y collaborators, let’s make a difference! I want to send a special thank you to Jan Scovic, M.Ed., for sharing her insight gained from a career in classroom teaching, lesson planning, and education. Thank you to Dr. Mary Squire, for your perspective as a psychologist and especially your help in developing the self evaluation survey. To Mike Regan, thanks for your help on the advertising and marketing front. Finally, thanks to my parents for the hours of discussions during the formation and enhancements of my platform, all of the proof reading of the seemingly endless re-writes of my facilitator’s manual, and for your love and support.
I’ll keep you posted as “Discovering YOU” © gets underway and hopefully I can report later on progress made introducing it around the state of Ohio, and across the country, through the YMCA.
